Statement Against Hate and Racism
Justice for Emmanuel Ibrahim Conte
Despite repeated calls to combat hate speech and incitement to violence, the normalization of such rhetoric has opened the door to multiple crimes. Words that incite hatred and spread misinformation ultimately turn into tragic acts, as seen in the heinous crime that claimed the life of the Sierra Leonean migrant Emmanuel Ibrahim Conte on March 8 at 2:30 p.m. in the Beyoud area of Dar Chaabane, Nabeul Governorate.
Emmanuel Ibrahim Conte was a migrant with a life and a family — a husband and a father to a young daughter — who came in search of safety and dignity. Losing his life in such a horrific manner is a profound human tragedy and raises urgent questions about the rise of hate speech and racism, the normalization of such discourse, and the violence it can lead to.
Tunisian migrants have themselves been victims of hate-motivated and racist crimes on many occasions, and we cannot accept that migrants in our country are subjected to the same practices.
The Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights calls for:
• 🔎 The full truth about the circumstances of this tragedy to be revealed to the public
• ⚖️ Accountability for all those involved in or who incited the crime, with no tolerance for impunity
• Serious action to confront hate speech, racism, and incitement to violence
The demand for justice for Emmanuel Ibrahim Conte is not only for his daughter and family, but also a defense of the values of humanity, dignity, and justice for all.
✊ Justice for Emmanuel
